The things we make... make us!
Two retired teachers decided to turn their garage into a pottery studio. Along with their daughter and son, they built a business around the idea that the world could use a little more Art and a lot more Artists. We're the Kio family; welcome to Wocky Pots!
During the late spring, summer, and early Fall, you can find us at various local small markets. We're currently busiest with the Chincoteague Island Farmers and Artisans Market, where we set up our booth on Saturdays and Wednesdays. If you're out and about, stop by and say howdy! We love to chat about the things we make, and we always give away our smiles for free!
Shane Kio is a retired teacher and artist who, along with his wife Diana, opened Wocky Pots Studio to practice and spread his love for clay, art, and creative shenanigans of all kinds. A longtime resident of the Eastern Shore, Shane spent decades incorporating Art into his classroom lessons, weaving a tapestry of experiences and knowledge with his students built from a lifetime of far-ranging interests such as juggling, drone flying, motorcycles, travel, and adventure. He carried this holistic worldview with him when he embarked on a new journey outside the halls of public education as a teaching artist at Wocky Pots Studio. Even though he works with a variety of media, Shane primarily creates art from stoneware clay coaxed into shape by hand-building and wheel-throwing. Colorful glazes and flowing forms bring life to the creed of Wocky Pots Studio: The things we make... make us.
Diana Birch Kio is a down-to-earth ceramic artist and retired educator, known for her unique and one-of-a-kind pieces. Alongside her husband, she built and opened Wocky Pots Studio where they create pottery and share their love for working with clay on their youtube channel “Wocky Pots”. With the motto “something for everyone”, Diana’s work features an eclectic mix of functional ware that reflects her love for nature and the Delmarva Peninsula, her lifelong home.
