Chincoteague Island Farmers and Artisans Market

August 1, 2024

It's my happy place!

This is our market set up!  We usually arrive at the market at 6:45 a.m.  We unpack our tables, crates, chairs, and tent from the truck into our spot and then go park.  Next we set up the tent and tables.  We cover the tables and begin unpacking all the wooden crates of pottery.  Then we use the crates to display our pottery.  And finally, I price anything that needs to be priced.  We are usually ready by 7:30 a.m.  However, the market doesn't officially open until 9:00 a.m. so we have a bit of time to sit and relax before we begin greeting folks.

I love to talk with everyone that comes to the market!  There are people visiting from many different places.  We meet a lot of folks from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, as well as Maryland and Virginia.  But sometimes there are people visiting from West Virginia, Ohio, Maine, New Mexico, Alaska, and Canada!  We get to talk about where they live and what we have in common.  We answer questions about our pottery and share our joy in reinventing ourselves from retired educators to potters.

The Chincoteague Island Farmers and Artisans Market is my happy place.  I always feel better when I am at the market.  It is a rewarding experience!
